Food File: Vanillekipferl (Almond Crescents)

I wish I shared this recipe with all of you before, but there’s still time for more baking right? I thought that maybe some of you would enjoy some Holiday baking this week, and this is by far (and by popular demand) the most delicious holiday cookie ever. Trust me, you’ll be making this every year 😉

Wishing all of you a very very Merry Christmas, and all the best for next year! I hope you’re staying warm, enjoying some quality time with your family, and surrounded by your loved ones 🙂

What you need:
– 2 1/2 cups flour
– 3/4 cup powdered sugar
– 3/4 cup ground almonds (almond meal)
– 1 packet vanilla sugar
– 1 egg
– 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 sticks of butter
– Powdered sugar for dusting

What to do:
. Combine powdered sugar and vanilla sugar. Ideally (as my Grandmother used to do) you should combine these two in a sealed container a month prior baking, so you know, next year, if we all remember 😉
. Then add the almonds.
. In a bowl, place the flour and in the center add the ingredients you just combined, the butter and the egg.
. Combine well using your hands until you form a ball. I start with a spatula and then I get my hands dirty 😉
. Make crescent shapes and place them on a baking sheet.
. Bake at 350 for 11-12 minutes (just when the bottom is golden)
. Let cool and dip each cookie into powdered sugar (I use a soup bowl for this).
. Enjoy!

Enjoy them with some tea 😉
