Hey everyone! I feel like I’ve been trying to share this post all week so I’m so happy I’m finally able to press “publish”. I kept coming back to it to add more because I really wanted to communicate in the best possible way why these are the 8 jackets and coats you need for Fall, what are some great options at all price points to consider, and how exactly can you wear them and style them with what you already have. Don’t you love this season? I love wearing jackets, coats and layering so I’m pretty excited to share this post!
I’d say that these, with the exception of the “novelty” ones (faux fur jackets and leopard printed ones), are closet staples that once you cross off your list you won’t have to revisit, so if your budget allows it and you’re debating whether or not to invest, I’d highly suggest you do as long as the style hits ALL your requirements. More and more I’m convinced that when it comes to wardrobe staples, quality is where it’s at and investing in the right piece prevents you from trying to fill gaps later on.
1. The Sherpa Lined Denim Jacket
Best way to carry over to the cold season your love for your denim jacket! I wear mine all the time and I’d recommend getting one where the sherpa lining is not extended to the sleeves as I find it gets pretty bulky, especially if you’re layering it over a sweater.
Good options to consider: Faux Shearling Trim Oversize Denim Jacket ($176) | Sherpa-Lined Oversized Icon Denim Jacket ($69) | Sherpa-Lined Jean Jacket ($49) |The Oversized Jean Jacket in Donaway Wash ($168) | Rolla’s Denim Sherpa Jacket (CAD $157) | Baggy Sherpa Trucker Jacket (CAD $127) | Ex Bf Sherpa Sherpa-lined denim jacket (CAD $168) | The Teddy Jacket (CAD $198) | Sonoma Teddy Jacket (CAD $198) | Palo Alto Teddy Jacket (CAD $178)
2. The Leather Jacket
A great option to wear as your coat on the first weeks of the season and as it gets colder, an extra layering piece.
Options: Classic Leather Moto Jacket ($499) | Faux-Leather Moto Jacket ($55) | Ultimate Leather Motorcycle Jacket ($498) | Collection washed leather motorcycle jacket ($495)
3. The Buffalo Plaid Jacket
I particularly love these for weekends out and about. It’s the perfect piece to add to a very basic outfit to make it more interesting and seasonal.
Options: Sessùn™ Buffalo Check Aleksei Jacket ($470) | Wilfred Off Duty Jacket ($250) | Michael Stars Dakota Boyfriend Cardigan ($178) | Wool-blend Shirt Jacket ($99)
4. The Teddy Jacket
There’s nothing as soft and cozy as a teddy jacket!
Options: Sherpa Trucker Jacket (CAD $97) | We The Free Rivington Sherpa Jacket (CAD $166) | Rivington Jacket (CAD $176) | Sherpa Portland Jacket ($125)
5. The Camel Coat
A great camel coat is so essential! I’d say it’s best to invest in a great camel coat before considering a grey one. When shopping for one don’t forget to look at the wool/cashmere content (the higher the better) and if it’s lined (makes a huge comfort and warmth difference).
Options: Estate Cocoon Coat (CAD $312) | Double Breasted Wool Blend Coat (CAD $729) | Oversized Longline Wool-Blend Coat ($180) | Unlined Wool-Blend Car Coat ($160) | Cocoon coat in Italian stadium-cloth wool ($365) | Double-breasted topcoat in wool cashmere ($398) | Daphne topcoat in Italian boiled wool ($228) | Lodge coat in Italian stadium-cloth wool ($365)
6. The Novelty Jacket
If you’re looking for a fun piece to spice things up a bit, consider a faux fur jacket, and if you want to take it a step further, an unconventional colour (like lavender) or a printed version will definitely do that!
Options: Plush Jacket ($128) | Faux Fur Coat (CAD $155) | Faux Fur Hoodie Jacket (CAD $198) | Faux Fur Hooded Jacket (CAD $150) | Collection faux-fur coat ($398) | Zip-up plush fleece coat ($228) | Sherpa Bomber Jacket in Leopard ($135) | Bagatelle Faux Fur Bomber Jacket ($99)
7. The Classic Black Coat
Definitely the very first coat you should own. Make sure it’s a good one because nothing is more versatile than a black wool coat. Whether you go with a cocoon or double breasted style, this is one piece you’ll be glad you bought.
Options: Oversized Soft-Brushed Coat for Women ($69) | Cocoon coat in Italian stadium-cloth wool ($365) | Double-breasted topcoat in wool cashmere ($398) | Estate Cocoon Coat ($328) | Hollis Double-Breasted Coat ($228)
8. The Utility Jacket
Utility jackets are great layering pieces throughout the year and now you can find them with cozy linings that make them extra warm for Fall and Winter.
Options: Field Jacket (CAD $146) | Embellished Military Shirt Jacket (CAD $166) | Twill Utility Jacket ($90) | Scout Utility Jacket ($35) | Passage Jacket ($188)
