Food File: 3 Ways to Hack a Grocery Store Cake

Today I want to share three suuuuper simple ways to “hack” a grocery store pound cake. Why? Have you ever been in a situation where all of a sudden you are hosting friends over and you realize you just don’t have the time to whip up some dessert yet you want to offer something thoughtful? Sometimes we just have to make our lives easier and these 3 simple hacks will definitely simplify it for you if you ever find yourself panicking about dessert 😉

First option: Get all the berries you can find in the supermarket or in your fridge and top that cake until it’s overflowing! Finish it off with a good dust of powdered sugar and serve with ice cream 😉

A second option is one for the chocolate lovers: slice the cake in half, spread nutella in the middle and on top and finish it with coconut flakes for a crunch factor.
Tip: If the cake is one of those that is not even, get a knife and level the top. Don’t worry about it as it will be covered in nutella and no one will notice it!
Lastly, here’s a citrus version that’s super simple to whip up. To begin, combine 4 tablespoons of fresh orange juice with 1/2 cup of powder sugar in a small pot over medium heat and cook until the sugar has been dissolved and it has a reached a “syrup” consistency. Pour it over the cake and finish it with some orange slices for a pretty presentation 😉
And that’s it! Three super simple ways to hack a grocery store cake that will get you out of trouble without making you look like a bad host 😉
