Blog Series: In my Closet – Recently

Before stepping into Emily’s closet, I just wanted to give you a huge thanks for your kind comments yesterday, they meant A LOT! And I thought you’d like to know that Matthew has been doing great, and after 3 days of training we haven’t had an accident (woo hoo!). Man, I surely underestimated not having to change diapers, it’s GRRRRREEEAT! 😉

Ok, so, today my lovely friend Emily from Recently (who just launched her new blog design!) is sharing with us her style, enjoy!

Describe your personal style: I would describe my personal style as “mommy chic.”  I’m not sure if that’s good or bad, but it’s definitely me these days!  The mommy side of me appreciates comfort and ease in my wardrobe, and the style lover in me must always feel polished, put together and on trend.

Must have items in your closet: Basic tees, tanks and blouses that can be accessorized to suit my mood.  Target has a v-neck tee that I absolutely love.  It comes in tons of colors and is only eight bucks!  Also, a white button up is an absolute staple for me.  When all else fails, I can always grab it and feel great.

Favorite color combo: Gray and army green, usually with some magenta, mint or leopard thrown in the mix.

Who are your style icons? Taylor Tomasi Hill, because she’s flat out fab-u-lous and Julie Sari ñana, because she dresses how I would if I was much younger and had really good legs.

Most treasured item (s): The vintage jewelry I’ve collected over the years and a vintage fur cape that my mother-in-law gave me.

If you could only shop at one shop which one would it be?
It would be a run-off between J.Crew and Zara, but Zara would probably
win because they tend to have more options that work with my budget.

How often do you purge your closet? I usually go on a purging spree in the spring and fall.  I love starting a new season fresh and knowing what items I have (or don’t have!) to work with.

How do you keep your closet organized? I try to keep everything together by type: short sleeves, long sleeves, dresses and pants, jeans, etc.  I also have to have matching hangers, and bins for all the little things, like belts and gloves.  My favorite organizing endeavor in my closet has been the magazine holders that I spray painted gold to hold my clutches.  I love seeing them all lined up and tidy!

What are you getting this Spring to update your closet?
I’ve been looking for a bright floral scarf to add some color to my
white and gray tops.  I’d also love a pair of d’orsay flats- they make
anything looked polished!

Any personal styling tricks you’d like to share? My favorite styling tricks of the moment are red lipstick and glasses.  I’m very fair skinned, and without lipstick or mascara I tend to look ghostly.  When I put on my tortoise frames and red lipstick I have instant color and depth to my face with hardly any effort.

*Thanks so much Emily!!
