Blog Series: In my Makeup Bag

This week I have Miranda from One Stylish Day at a Time sharing her favorite makeup products and tips with us. Follow her blog for a great dose of fashion inspiration and to envy her fabulous (and growing) collection of handbags 😉

What’s your current makeup bag?
To be honest, I’ve never really kept my makeup in a makeup bag because I find that I have a hard time locating things that way. I keep my makeup in a grid of trays that fit my drawer and keep my makeup brushes in a class jar on the bathroom counter. With that said, I do use makeup bags when I travel and found myself really wanting this Kate Spade makeup bag. I just can’t get over the fact that I could match my phone case and makeup bag – love being a girl.

Do you have a makeup tip or secret you would like to share?
– Know what to save on and what to skimp on. Buy your mascara, eye liner, chapstick, and nail polishes at the drug store. Take it from the girl that splurged on these items, the drug store versions are often better quality. Case in point, Chanel nail polish – is it just me or does this stuff chip exponentially faster than Essie or OPI nail polish?
– The secret to beautiful makeup application is actually something you can’t really see: the prep work. Use an eyeshadow and foundation base to smooth out the texture of your skin and even out your skin tone. Not to mention, a foundation base is a life-saver in a warm climate. Nobody likes having their foundation run down their face.

Any particular makeup trend that you’re looking forward for spring?
This may not be a recent trend, but I love the idea of rose colored makeup for spring. Soft, pretty rose lips and cheeks for spring embody the season for me – romance and whimsicality. I also love the strong pink lips for spring as well but feel more limited when I can wear it.

How does your day makeup routine differs from your night time one?
I would say that my night makeup routine is pretty similar to my day makeup routine except more. I generally apply more blush, more mascara, and more eyeshadow. I’ll either play with a strong smoky eye or a bright lip – two things I typically don’t do during  the day.
