Fashion File: How to Wear Leopard in Summer

When I think about Summer prints leopard is not exactly the first one that comes to mind; in fact, I wouldn’t say leopard is a summer-y print, how about you? Perhaps a bit heavy? White/blue stripes and gingham seem to be the most popular patterns and I get it, stripes are fresh and clean and gingham reminds us of Summer picnics…..but leopard, done the right way, can look great as part of your Summer look and I’ll show you the one single trick to make it look lighter and fresh!

It all comes down to pairing it with an easy breezy eyelet piece to tone it down and balance it. Whether you pair a leopard skirt with an eyelet top, or wear leopard shoes with your eyelet dress or jumpsuit, the contrast of the “heavy” pattern and light texture achieves a great balance that comes across as a chic Summer statement.

Leopard shoes are a great way to add interest to neutral looks, same as a cute bag paired with a dress. Whether you choose flats, comfy heels, or sneakers (I love a good espadrille sneaker like these), the print is such a neutral and year-round staple that there’s no way you can go wrong. You can also pair a leopard cami (like this one) with an eyelet skirt (this one is my fave at the moment), for a super cute look! Another easy way to instantly give leopard a Summer spin is to pair it with a season must-have like a basket bag. If you’re wearing a dress like this one, then finish your look with a cute straw bag for the most season appropriate ensemble!
