Life File: 3 Easy and Inexpensive Ways to Freshen-Up Your Home

Yesterday I shared lots of amazing accessories you can incorporate into your home to give it a “new” and “fresh” look for the year, and today I wanted to mention three easy ways to freshen-up your space that won’t cost much and that will definitely brighten everything up and most importantly, keep you motivated and inspired.

Let’s start with one of my favourite things: flowers. Who doesn’t love to have fresh flowers at home? It’s one of those simple indulgences that can lift you up like nothing else. They stimulate your creativity, improve your mood, fight depression, make your space look beautiful….I can go on and on about the benefits of having them around. I know that buying flowers can get expensive, but you can definitely get beautiful ones at the grocery store and if you get a large bouquet you can split it up and fill different small vases and have them in the bathroom, your nightstand, the kitchen…plus, some flowers last between 7 and 10 days.

Another easy way to switch things around is to swap your pillows. I just moved some pillows I had in my living room to my bed and all of a sudden I’m enjoying this new look that didn’t cost a dollar. It’s a small thing to do but it really goes a long way. Alternatively, you can just take advantage of the January sales and get new pillow covers (Anthro and West Elm have great ones, and Etsy is another favourite place to shop for them). I’ll make sure to share my picks next week!
Lastly, bring in some life in the form of green plants and enjoy the health benefits of having them around. They not only are mood boosters but they clean the air and definitely help you work better 🙂 If you’re one of those who can’t keep anything alive I highly recommend picking up a snake plant; not only are they incredibly low-maintenance (you won’t be able to kill them) but they are among the top 3 plants great for filtering formaldehyde. I have one big one in the entryway and I recently picked up a small one that I keep next to where I sit to work 😉
