Outfits File: Spring’s Classic Must-Haves

Happy Monday, hope you guys enjoyed the weekend! I want to start the week addressing Spring’s classics, the items you should definitely have in your wardrobe as anchors for all your outfits of the season. I always say that before diving into trends you have to make sure you have your staples and classics covered, why? because they are the pieces you’ll wear year after year, carry from one season to another, and whether you invest in them or not (that would depend on your budget), they are the pieces with the lower cost per wear ratio, and that’s exactly what differentiates a good buy from a not so good one. It’s also how you define your closet staples. They make for the perfect base for all your trendy purchases, making getting dressed just that much easier 😉

A good classic beige trench is definitely one piece you’ll constantly reach for in the upcoming months, it grounds your look, makes it more polished, and can basically be worn as a part of your work attire just as your low-key weekend one (looks great with skinny or boyfriend jeans and sneakers). If you like drapey silhouettes then I highly recommend this one from Artizia (comes in 6 colours or so), but if you’re looking for a more structured one (more polished I’d say), then I’d go with this one (also own it and love it), this one (it’s on sale) or this one. Of course, if you’d like to splurge you can’t go wrong with this one. I have to admit, it’s a good one, and looks amazing on (my friend Victoria owns it and she always gets tons of compliments).

A good trusty white shirt is just like a white tee, and another wardrobe classic that should be in your closet already. I usually order from Madewell because I like that they are a bit oversized and comfy, and they have never failed me in the quality department 🙂 There’s nothing more elegant than a skinny jeans + white shirt combo, so when in doubt as to what to wear, go for that!

Lastly, I waited almost a year to get these loafers and I’m perplexed as why I waited so long as they are the comfiest loafers I’ve ever owned, plus, a classic pair of black loafers is one good staple to check off your “musts” list. They come in a bunch of different colours and fit slightly big so I’d recommend sizing down half a size (I normally wear 8 1/2 and went with size 8 in these). I was tempted to get the leopard version, but I followed my own advice (wink wink), and made sure I had my classic needs covered before stepping into any kind of pattern.
