I know that this post really looks like a scrambled egg, but I want to share with you some packing tips that really worked out for me for my trip to New York and to fully explain it and show you that I did follow those tips, I had to include all these images, so excuse the chaos! 😉 I think the secret of getting the most out of your suitcase is to stick to a color palette and to pack functional pieces that can easily take you from a casual outfit to a dressier one, or just from day to night, depending on what you have planned for your trip. Because we had different activities during the days, we ended up changing outfits more than once, yeap, we were in and out the hotel like crazy ladies, thank goodness Jenny found a great hotel that was conveniently located in the area where all of our events took place!
So, because I’m a sucker for neutrals, I went with black, white and denim for my color palette, and to “spice” it up I packed some colorful items for a fun twist. A great advantage of traveling with neutrals is that if you end up buying some pieces you can wear them right away. I got a couple of things and not only I was able to instantly get an idea of how they would work in my closet, but I got the chance to wear them with what I had originally packed 🙂
Try to pack both dressy and casual pieces that coordinate well together so that you get the most of them. For handbags, a large satchel is a must if you’re carrying around lots of stuff (I like one that fits my dslr), a crossbody is functional, and a clutch is perfect for evening or dressier outfits. With shoes, make sure you have a comfortable pair (flats or booties), a mid heel and a high heel to accommodate different looks 😉
Here’s a peek of what made it into my suitcase, and an example of how I took an outfit to the next by swapping just one piece and the shoes. For instance, I wore that purple skirt with a graphic tee and heels for a show, then for our shopping stroll I swapped the skirt for denim shorts and the heels for flats, easy as that!
